One: There is snow outside! Not a whole lot, and it'll probably melt soon, but enough for me to want to play the HP and CoN soundtracks constantly.

Two: The BSG soundtracks arrived yesterday! So I listened to them! And cried! Because the music is so beautiful! Seriously, I can't listen to "Reuniting the Fleet" without tears. Gaaah Celtic-inspired goodness.

Three: I saw Borat two days ago. And honestly... I wasn't all that impressed. It was funny, but it wasn't exactly the side-splitting, knee-slapping, pants-wetting laughter-fest the critics were making it out to be. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Perhaps I was too spoiled (I read three reviews, and between them, pretty much every decent gag was covered... so instead of being shocked by anything, I just found myself thinking, 'Oh, this must be the part where this happens.' It was like what happened with 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail', only compressed). It just wasn't as funny as I'd expected it to be.

Which isn't to say I didn't laugh. But honestly, by the end of the film, I mostly felt really, really ashamed of my country. There's got to be another country nearby with fewer assholes per square mile that I could move to. *squints up at Canada*

Four: We might be getting real internet. As in, high-speed, firewall-less internet. As in, I could sit in my room and talk to people on AIM and avoid my family. We have to go talk to the people at Embarq, but if they can get us broadband for 25 bucks a month, I'll forking pay for it. I will clap my hands for joy as I hand over the check.

Five: I've officially quit Lost. Now I need a new mood theme. Which means I really need number four.

Six: Not seeing the Decemberists, because they're sold out. BOO.

And now I have to go try to buy ducks online.

I feel the same about Borat. That, and I have to blame it for the image of two naked men fighting for an unnecessarily long length of time, which is now burned into my mind. Gross. Not nearly funny enough to make up for that.


Your new mood theme should clearly be BSG....or else pictures that we take of ourselves making stupid faces.

I'm not going to see Borat. And I liked your assessment of the critics - if they get wind of something that's somehow obscure or vaguely foreign, they shit themselves to be first in line to orgasm about how wonderful it is HALLELUJAH. (And Cohen does nothing for me - I was never impressed with his Ali G character. Honestly, I can look at real rappers and get THAT if I want ... which I don't.) To me, the whole thing smacks of the general negativity I see online every day in message boards devoted to "I HATE THIS MOVIE" "I HATE THIS ACTOR" "THESE ASSHOLES ARE CUNTLICKERS" and the like. Hell, I hate the Neocons, and I can only maintain that level of annoyance for so long.

I just checked out Borat on rottentomatoes, and I can't believe how many excellent reviews that film has. I think there's maybe three bad reviews on the whole page.

My current theory is that critics (at least the American ones) want to pretend they're in on the joke and not the brunt of it.

How do you buy ducks online??

You look for duck-related postings on various farm-related buy-sell sites, then you email the seller and say, "I want some of those ducks!" and they sell them to you. *sage nod*

At least, that's the theory. At the moment, we aren't having much luck finding any. We might have to resort to ordering them from these people again.

Right, but how would they send them to you once you've bought them? You can't just FedEx a duck. Or can you?

We-ell... I don't know if you'd use FedEx, specifically, but you can mail ducklings. You just get take them right after they've hatched and are fluffy, because they've just absorbed the yolk sac and can go for 48 hours without food or water. So you stick a bunch of them in a wee box so they stay warm--Murray McMurray won't sell less than 15 at a time--and you ship 'em quick-like so they get to their destination within two days. I don't think you could mail them overseas or anything, but across the US it's possible. That's how we got our first batch: mail order. :D

*Noddles to Platy's shtuff* We used to order pheasant and chicken chicks and get them in boxes with small holes in them. They are teh awesome, but smell of feces when they arrive cuz they've...pooed...among other things...
