Re: Fringe

So, uh, I realize this episode was supposed to make me happy, but I'm actually pretty infuriated. I'll break it down for you:


1.) I understand that most of the fans are all about Peter and Olivia (frankly, so was I before this season), but I really like Lincoln, too. The way his character arcs seem to go, I honestly wonder if that's something the writers never intended or anticipated: that we'd like him. More specifically, that we'd like him enough to really, REALLY dislike watching him get his heart broken in EVERY DAMN UNIVERSE. It's already gone down in the redverse, and now it's happening again. How many times am I supposed to enjoy watching this quiet little tragedy play itself out? Because once was one too many.

2.) Olivia's behavior in this ep didn't make any damn sense to me. The fact that she isn't more disturbed by these new memories, given her previous experiences re: lookalikes inhabiting lives that aren't theirs AND false memories being implanted into her brain, is astonishing. The fact that she's willing to let go of the life she's been living for the past thirty years because hey, this other Olivia has a hot boyfriend (and where is she EVER going to find true love without Peter, she wonders as her partner makes puppy eyes at her from across the room) is almost unbelievable and... kind of awful, frankly. How many relationships is she casually casting aside in favor of this one guy? Sorry, stepmom, but I'd rather have Peter than my memories of you, and I trust you'll go out of your way to rebuild our relationship once I've forgotten it!

3.) In short, who the hell IS this woman, and why am I supposed to care about her happiness when it involves consciously screwing over the people who love her? (And I say "consciously" because she knows full well that her actions are going to hurt them--viscerally--long after it ceases to bother her because she's forgotten who she used to be.)


4.) BUT IT'S ALL OKAY BECAUSE TRUE LOVE, RIGHT? Well, her alternate timeline's true love, which now applies to her and Peter, while Lincoln is left out in the cold. Again.
