Update from Palmer's Lodge
Apr. 2nd, 2009 02:59 pmDarn it, shift key, stop being so small and making it difficult for me to capitalize things.
Quick and dirty run-down of the trip thusfar: we left Caroline and Peter's cottage early this morning after a wonderful three-day stay. I think I gained about five pounds from Peter's amazing cooking, and on Wednesday night we reciprocated in true Minnesota fashion by making them a hot dish. They claimed to like it, despite the appalling lack of tater tots in this country (a rather crucial ingredient; we made do with french fries).
We got standing-room tickets for Waiting for Godot Wednesday afternoon, and while standing was kind of a pain (especially because Beckett, bless him, while often hilarious, is not exactly a writer of edge-of-your-seat thrilling material), the show was AMAZING. We went to the stagedoor afterwards for autographs, so I got my program signed by Simon Callow and Patrick Stewart, both of whom were very nice. I saw the little kid who played the Boy, too, and told him he'd done a good job, which he seemed to appreciate. D'aaaww, British kids with their little British accents. Sadly, we were informed by a stagehand that Sir Ian wouldn't be coming out and that the guy who played Lucky would be a while since it "took him a while to get cleaned up." Still, I was within about two feet of Patrick Stewart and Simon Callow, so it was a day well spent. And it cost me a whopping three pounds (five, I suppose, if you count the money I had to pay for a program).
Also, the weather here? GORGEOUS. It's sunny out right now, and spring is well underway here (back home there were only a few crocuses in the garden, and I gathered that shortly after we left, more snow was dumped upon them). I love it!
Okay, I think we're off to Picadilly Circus to catch one of those sight-seeing bus tours, as long as the weather's going to be so nice. More will follow! Apologies in advance regarding comments--the wifi is free here, but you sign up for it in 30-minute increments, so I'm going to focus more on posting and less on answering comments until I get home. Hope you don't mind. Because THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT.
