STUPID FUCKING KID.
Aug. 7th, 2006 11:23 pmSo, the MN Zoo has this meerkat exhibit. It's relatively new, and they had a nice little breeding program going.
But some idiotic nine-year-old girl decided to reach into the exhibit and got bitten, and because her stupid fucking parents refused to put her through the not-that-painful series of shots in the arm, a family of five meerkats was put down so it could be proven that they didn't have rabies--which isn't all that surprising, considering that they HAD THEIR FUCKING RABIES SHOTS. But the chiiild was in daaanger, and they had to be sure. So the mom, dad, and three kits are now dead because of a stupid girl who climbed up the side of the pen (and I've been there--there are fake rocks and plexiglass and it is by no means easy to get into), leaving the zoo with only a small group of male meerkats. There goes the breeding program.
Nine years old is old enough to know the animal in there is not Timon, and that wild animals can bite. The little shit should have gotten the shots. With a big, scary-ass needle.
I fucking hate people.
ETA: Best case scenario: there is some serious Brokeback Termitemound action, and thousands of children are exposed to the beauty of homosexual love in the form of small, fuzzy animals. Either that, or they buy a new female, which I'm sure will be less of a hassle than a few shots. OH, WAIT.
