Things are not looking good for Horatio. The egg has stopped shaking, the air sack is still intact (it would be gone if the duckling was thinking seriously about hatching anytime in the next 24 hours). Mom has been running the temperature a bit on the cool side this year, which might be slowing things down a bit, but chances are Horatio has more or less died in the womb. Raa.

On a brighter note, I got some GREAT pics of Unofficially Tink today! She's been wandering as far from the nest as MamaCayuga will let her, which isn't that far. I think MamaCayuga's waiting for the rest of her eggs to hatch, which is sweet, but kind of unfortunate because they're not all that likely to hatch, and Tink needs to not die of dehydration because the water bowls are two feet away from the nest. Mom nabbed Tink and dipped her beak in the water so she knows where it is, at least, and we know she's gotten some fluids in her. Ducklings can survive 24 hours without food or water after they're hatched no problem, but MamaCayuga will probably be sitting on that nest for another two or three days before we call it quits and take the eggs, whether she wants us to or not.

Anyway, onto the pics! )
